July 5th is recognized across Canada as National Injury Prevention Day. This annual awareness campaign was developed to bring attention to the devastating impact of injury. The NB Trauma Program, along with Parachute and other key stakeholders would like to invite you to learn more about how to avoid injuries by following a few simple safety recommendations. Wellness fairs, bike rodeos and the recent positive ticketing pilot program in the Greater Moncton region are good examples of available activities that can provide you with a wealth of safety information for you and your family.
Did you know?
- Over $696 million is spent on injury in New Brunswick every year
- Injury is the number one killer of Canadians aged 1 to 44
- Over 85% of hospitalizations of seniors in NB are due to falls
Improvements in the area of injury prevention has been made over the past few years, but there’s still more work to be done. Remember, most injuries are predictable and preventable. Whether you are a concerned parent, a youth or a senior, we all have a role to play in order to help reduce the impact of injuries in New Brunswick.
